Spleck: Creyonah Special #2
This is to mark the one year since Stan Lee passed after a long and eventful life where he co-created so many heroes and helped change comics for the better.
Obviously he didn't do it all by himself as he was just one man and there were so many talents such Jack Kirby, Steve Ditko John Romita Sr. Don Heck, John Buscema and so many others to name them all would take a long time.
And this is for Stan.
I never read his stories in real-time as I was only born in 1971 and he left the monthlies long before I was reading comics with any regularity, which didn't happen until 1987, though I 'd read comics before then, just not regularly.
But I read reprints and what little of his output I did read was enough to make me familiar with him and enjoy what he had helped usher in, the Marvel Age.
Without comics and for me, comics have always been Marvel first, I wouldn't be a writer. That was the most important of the three pillars.
I only wish that I'd understood how I could be as an artist as early as I took to writing.
But I didn't so the one is long behind the other, though possibly already better than the former, or surely quicker to be delivered.
Sure, there's poetry, but who wants that on their fridge?
But beyond drawing a passable Stan Lee face, even if it's only a 4 out of 10(Or is that too high), I wanted to draw from the art book I ordered from Amazon before I came out to the adjacent stomping grounds of my first 34 years, I also wanted to read some Stan Lee penned comics from his glory days.
It would have been nice to mark the anniversary with 3000 words, or the first good peak, but it didn't happen.
On the other hand, I'd sooner take the hit than to read some glory days Stan Lee.
And what's four days of sub-2000 words when I'm going to strike back with 3000+ words tomorrow as part of my Millioncy?
Yeah, these past four days ain't gonna stop me from achieving that.
All this to say, thank you Stan Lee, for all that you helped make be.
I wish you were still with us, but you left us with so much.
If there's a heaven, I hope it's one where you get to spend time with those who left before you.
Be some version of your best.
