Untimed

It's late at night on a Sunday but I have time enough to watch another first season episode of Star Trek: The Next Generation, this time the episode 11001001 which had the Enterprise park at a Starbase, it's not important which one to have the ship's computer be upgraded.

The upgrading was to be handled by the Binar's, who are a strange race, by human standards where they work in pairs and not gendered.

Okay, the last part is fractionally less unusual now but it is their normal and who are we to say their normal isn't right for them, just as they have no right to tell us our normal isn't right.

And as the ship was parked at a starbase, the crew was  absent from the ship as they had surely earned the r and r, what with their being on the flagship of the Federation.

So that was the main story but as there often was, there was another story and this one was about Riker as he tested out the just completed improvements made to the ships computer which included improvements to the Holodeck, at least according to the Binars at the time of Riker entering Holodeck 4.

Minuet sure was a looker eh Riker? Didn't you wish that she was real?

He was kissing her like he did.

And if we ever reach that level of holgraphic technology, you know there will be problems leading to people, very much men, having problems with addcition to holoigrams.

Okay, there was also an emergency in Engineering as the magnetic containment field protecting the anitmatter was breaking down which would destory the Enterprise because matter and antimatter don't co-exist well,

Not well at all as they explode.

So the ship had to abandoned with just Picard and Riker being left unreachable in Holodeck 4, thanks to reasons.

Reasons I know now, but didn't know then, though with the announcement that the magnetic field was regeenrating, we had to know that shit was going down.

Those Binars!

They tricked both Data and Laforge! And that is a neat trick. Or dirty one.

But the Binars surely had a good reason for doing this right? Or a bad one.

Those tricky Binars!

But if you're only going to be left with two starfleet personnel aboard the flagship, then what better two than the captain and the first officer?

Well, on the Enterprise there are a good number of combinations that could retake the Enterprise.

Probably more on the Enterprise D than the Enterprise or Enterprise A.

This was a good combination though.

And yes, the Binars had a very good reason for doing what they had done.

They needed to save their world because a star going Supernova was going to kill of a whole race of beings who were dependant on computers that would be shut down in the wake of a pulse that would kill all the power.

So they needed a mobile computer and as luck would have it, the the Enterprise was the largest one available.

Poor Riker. The BInars were saved and Riker went skipping down to Holodeck 4, not really, in hopes of seeing Minuet again.

She was gone.

No holgraphic sex for Riker.

Ho hum, another good episode of first season TNG.

If this was normal times, I'd have sports to write about to finish the blog off because this doesn't feel like a good enough writing to be considered a tasty meal, figuratively speaking that is.

But in the wake of COVID-19, seasons and events are being cancelled, postponed or delayed.

Attention Summer Olympics, there is going to come a time where you are going to have to announce what you are going to do and the only safe decision for you to take is going to be to cancel the Olympics, which has only been done in two different years when the Winter and Suimmer Olympics were held in the same calendar year.

I get that it sucks for all the athletes, organizers and fans of the Olympics, which yes includes me, but safety trumps sports so cancel them because this is not going to cured tomorrow.

Sorry Tokyo, but these games are going to be cancelled. It's just a matter of time.

Speaking of time, mine is up for the day.

A votre sante.
