The Russell Macklemore Experience #14

23:05-23:53=48

When The Bough Breaks is tonight's episode of still the first season of TNG.

A planet has just come into view of the Enterprise, a legendary planet called Aldea, which much like Atlantis is on Earth and some other such place on another world, is one of legend.

Riker, Dr. Crusher and Troi were selected to be the Away Team. when surely others like Data and Yar or Worf would have been selected for this mission.

But for a people needing children, I guess that was an Away Team that made sense.

And that is what they took. They stole a bunch of children from the Enterprise, including Wesley Crusher, who was on the bridge when they began to scan the ship.

How did such an advanced people let themselves come to point in their history where they couldn't have children and were clearly in danger of becoming extinct.

It's  a terrible fate for anyone to suffer from and I would hate for us to suffer from a similar problem.

Of course, with almost 8 billion in the world today, we're not going to suffer from such a fate in our lifetime.

If ever.

We also don't have the technology to hide our planet or beam people from point to point b.

Or to send the Federation flagship three days away at Warp 9. Or make good on a follow-up threat to to send them hurtling far enough away that they wouldn't return to Aldea until the kidnapped children were grandparents.

That's a long time.

And wasn't it even true. They couldn't predict with certainty that the same thing that had them unable to bear children wouldn't do the same thing to their supposed saviours?

They couldn't of course.

In fact, it's likely that they would have come down with the sdame thing that the Aldeans themselves had.

And where would they be then?

Dr. Crusher discovered that the Aldeans were dying.

It's the Ozone Layer that's giving them radiation sickness?

The children banded together under the leadership of Wesley Crusher.

Individual One could learn a lot from watching the whole of Star Trek and not just TNG.

It wasn't only the the children that saved Aldea, but the actions of Riker and Data who seized control of the Custodian, AKA, their computer.

They were saved but could never again use the shield or the cloak? A pity shame they couldn't figure out a way to use it without sentencing themselves to death.

Oh well, they had a future again. And if they opened their world to other peoples, they would have a good sized population in no time.

It's done wonders for North America.

You guessed it, I liked this episode too.
