The Russell Macklemore Experience #7

Welcome to Season One, Episode Nine of Star Trek: The Next Generation's first season which is better than I used to think because I've yet to not enjoy an episode.

Though it's fair to say that the least enjoyed episodes, for me anyway, were the first two episodes of the series, Encounter At Farpoint.

"The Battle" was the second encounter with the Ferengi and the Damon, or captain, of the Ferengi ship was there to give Picard the Stargazer, his old starship because he had been involved in a battle with an unidentified starship, which happened to be of Ferengi origin.

And it was being given to Picard at no cost.

How unFerengi like, which didn't go over well with either of Bok's First or Second Officer.

And we should have known something was up with that odd offer.

The Ferengi had beamed directly to the bridge from their ship.

And Wesley just happened to be there because he'd been working to extend the range of the sensors and discovered what we'd come to know was the Stargazer.

Bad form on Wesley's part for not communicating with the bridge about discovering the ship en route.

We found out fairly early into the episode that Bok was behind the headache that Picard has had for the whole episode.

We just didn't know why.

I know of course because I remember from when I watched this episode when I was far much younger than I am now.

But the episode hasn't reached that point yet.

And now we're about to find out as Damon Bok said he was collecting on an old debt.

Damon Bok's son was the damon of the Ferengi ship that was destroyed at the Battle of Maxia, which is what Bok called it at the beginning of the episode.

And now, Picard is stuck on the Stargazer, reliving the battle of Maxia which resulted in the destruction of the Ferengi ship. Bok's plan was to set Picard against the Entreprise which he knew was too powerful for the Stargazer but was hoping would result in Picard's death.

Obviously that didn't happen and Bok lost command of his ship thanks in no small part to both Crushers, Troi and Data.

You must know by now that I liked this episode too.

Thanks for stopping by and I hope that you are Trekkies, which is the far superior term to Trekkers, otherwise you ain't gonna much like the Experience going forward.
