The Russell Macklemore Experience #8
Once more into the future to join the adventures of the good Starship Enterprise, also known as Season One, Episode 10, Hide And Q, the second appearance of Q from the Q Continuum
And again there was a wall placed in front of the Enterprise as they raced towards some colony that had suffered an explosion
Even in their near perfect future, things weren't perfect as shit could happen, like a methane explosion, or methane like as which was the term that they used.
Q took all the main cast, except for Troi, who was on the way home to Betazed and Dr. Crusher, who wasn't even mentioned to this point.
Or the boy, who would have to be considered main cast, even though he was just an acting ensign.
Which is interesting since he was a young actor, though one with some credits to his name, namely thirteen in the first five years of his career, 1981-1986.
This was an episode focused on the Q Contiuum's interest in Riker, as he was given the power of the Q.
A power which he used to send Data, Worf and Geordie back to the Enterprise after Tasha had already been sent back through a penalty box for challenging Q.
And then it got exciting as Q did not take kindly to Riker rejecting the Q Continuum's offer to be one of them as the all the main cast save the afformentioned Tori and elder Crusher.
The aliens tyhings were back too and they killed Worf and Wesley, with Wesley's death being quite shocking as he was speared from behind. And they even showed it too.
But Riker still had the power and he used ti to restore Wesley to life and return everyone to the bridge.
Including himself.
And they actually made it to the colony only a promise that Riker made to Picard to not use his powers kept him from bringing a dead girl back to life.
he regretted this and started to act like he was accustomed to his new powers and was set on keeping them as he started to call Picard by his first name.
And when it seemed certain that he was going to leave, Q dropped by the bridge and Riker wanted to give the crew gifts, thanks to his powers.
And oh the gifts that gave.
To Wesley he gave him ten years, which wasn't anything like what he'd look like at all.
To Data, he offered to make him human, but Data said no quite eloquently
And he offered normal human sight to Geordie who, asked to be as he was, because he didn't want sight thanks to Q fuckery, even if it was from Riker.
Finally, he gave Worf a Klingon woman who seemed to take offence to Tasha. Worf rejected her after a a very brief giving in to her obvious appeal to his instinctive self.
And then Riker felt like a fool and rejected the power that he'd been given.
Sitting here, all these decades after the episode first aired, I don't know that I would have been able to reject the power of the Q.
But Riker did and Q was removed from the Enterprise against his wishes like they were more powerful than him, or maybe pooled their power which made them able to do that.
Oh yeah, Wesley also came to ask to be made his own age again, which he was, but by the Q.
You know that I liked this epside, I've yet to not like one of the episodes.
Maybe the first episode that I* won't like is the one about...
But we haven't got to that one yet.
I now turn my attention to the in progress game between the Predators and the Canadiens in Montreal at the Bell Center.
It's scoreless, but that's not any better than the Habs being up by one, two, three or four because they can't hold onto wins that should have been theirs.
Four more wins to this point would have made a world of difference as they would tied in points with the Leafs.
Wow.
They should have beaten the Rangers and the Stars, in regulation, but they got a point in that game, so that would have only given them 7 points, if the other two should haves were counted.
But that would still be 78 points and within striking distance of the playoffs.
Which makes the cries to blow it all up and trade everyone to be an overreaction.
In my own opinion of course.
I'm hardly an expert on Hockey.
Or would they have faltered as badly as they even if they hadn't lost Jonathan Drouin and Paul Byron that fateful fucked up night where they were in the midst of a season that was unfolding as well as they could have hoped for.
Not like that season where Carey Price only played a handful if games, but good enough for for top four in the Eastern Conference at the end of that night.
Only it wasn't meant to be eh?
Damn, the Carey price era has been marked by injuries, twice to Carey Price, once which totally derailed their playoff chances and once in the playoffs when they were in the Conference Finals and the other player crashed the net.
It was a Ranger, one Chris Kreider!
And this season with the lengthy injuries to Jonathan Drouin, who's out again and Byron.
Are the broadcasters talking about the other team again? You do remember that you are broadcasting Canadiens' games
Oh look a thtat, a great play by a Hab and no goal.
Like we haven't seen that before.
They aren't wrong about the Habs' inability to beat the Red Wings this season as they lost all four games to them, including the last one where they had a 3-1 loeqad heading into the 3rd only to give up three goals and score none themselves.
What the hell Carey? In another season that would have been game over.
It's true that Carey has a winning record this season, but only barely at 27-24-6 coming into tonight and how many of this season's losses have his fingerprints all over them?
Too damn many.
Now this is not to say trade him! This is just me wanting him to do better dammit! Especially on Saturdays as he lost so many games on Saturday.
But he is not the only one responsible for their being out of the playoffs as another 24 points, which the maximum that they could earn this season almost surely isn't going to be enough this season.
Not that they've been able to win more than three straight. Though they've done four times so far.
Of course, they've also lost 8 straight twice, had a fiver and not yet three straight.
Unless they lose tonight of course, which is entirely possible because the predators play them tough. And this being a season from hell, the smart money is almost on them losing.
Especially since they've been outscored by the Florida teams 8-1 since they last won a week a go tonight, in a 6-2 win over the Islanders.
Hmm, if they only won on Tuesday for the rest of the season they would win another four and end with 35 wins.
How many points would they end up with though, as they could lose all the other games in overtime or the shootout.
So 35-30-17 for a total of 87 points, which would surely include a game or two where they had a late lead and couldn't hold it.
And that would lead to more if onlies.
The Habs should have made the playoffs this season! And I don't think that I'll be convinced otherwise.
They made it through the 1st unscathed.
But there are two more periods to be played and so many times, the first was their best.
Oh is that what's going to happen tonight?
It wouldn't surprise me as it's going to be hard for them to finish this hellish season with more wins than regulation losses.
Also, can we stop having to hear about the Habs playing, or more too often not playing 60 minutes?
What the futt! You're paid to play 60 minutes so play that long.
And longer on the nights you have to play overtime. That shouldn't be a thing.
It's not a things for good clubs.
Oh.
And the Predators just scored, marking this the third straight game where the opposing team has scored first.
Three game losing streak half the way to being realized?
Bother.
Ah, I missed the first goal. it's 2-0 now. Well, given how they've played since they fairly dominated the Islanders, who are now out of a playoff spot, but were until recently, very much in them.
So yeah, the Habs are going to suffer their first three game losing streak this season.
Or is this going to be their second five game slide?
No! Don't you dare say that this will be their third 8 game slide! That is not going to happen! No way, no how. They are not that bad!
Just bad enough to go through two eights and a five.
Ugh.
C'mon Habs, remember when you were having a great season? Granted it was only through the first 19 games, but they were they were much in the thick of the playoff race, because let's be honest, it's a marathon not a sprint.
But again, 19 games is not even fifty.
Durh, I know, but there was so many games to play and a team can get off to a great start and fade, or as the Habs have this season, just fall apart.
Damn injuries and other things.
Oh joy, Tomas Tatar is out indefinitely. How much more shit are they going to go through this season from hell?
Say it broacaster! Say the Predators will have an insurmountable lead if they go up 3-0, as they just did. Not because the Habs will storm back to win it in overtime, as the Stars did against them back in February, but it would the thing to say since the Habs have not shown the same ability to comeback as they have to give it up.
But no, you won't say that.
And my saying it won't give the kind of spark the habs would need to first get back in the game, then to come back and win it.
Bother, again.
At this point, it's one thing to lose, since this season is lost, but don;t give up your second shutout in three games after not give up any in the first 68, even while going through the first three wretched streaks.
Ah, this is the fourth such wretched streak is it?
Futt me!
But can the Habs buy a goal? Please buy one!
And now it's the third straight game where they have given up at least 4 goals. Two of those games were started by Carey too.
What a wretched season this has been.
Can they make the playoffs next season and avoid a four season stretch on the outside looking in?
Being optimistic about the Canadiens, even when they are sucking like they have this season, I say yes.
Hell, I thought that they were going to make the playoffs this season.
Obviously I was wrong.
So very, very wrong alas.
Wow, they gave up four goals in a period. They couldn't be much worse if they were trying could they?
Tell me that it gets better?
Like soon, in the next five seasons and not ten years from now?
Lie to me if you have to.
They scored, just as I was thinking that this was going to be their home shutout, because, knock on wood,, which yes I did, or at least an approximation of it, their only shutout loss will be on the road.
And this after I imagined them getting back into the game with three early goals.
They have the first, but they need another two to make it to the score that I imagined, before I imagined another goal by the Predators to play to a 5-3 lead.
Hold on, don't boo me.
I was imagining a 6 goal third as improbable an accomplishment that that would be for these Habs.
Well, any team. Though the Oilers had a five goal third against this very squad on the third.
Yes, the Habs are not the Oilers. But they do have players that can score a little.
So why not?
Oh, they suck.
At least got a goal.
And they just got another. They're only down by two and there's plenty of time left to play.
I know, the Habs coming back in a game that they were down by four in a season like this? That's improbable but so was two streaks of absolute wretchedness where they lost 8 games.
But at least they are showing signs of life and didn't quit, even if they came too late as time continues rick down and get ever more in favour of the Predators who only have to gulp hard and worry if the Habs draw within one.
Please, Habs, draw within one before there's four minutes left to play.
Yeah, it's not going to be a six goal third for the Habs with just under 8 minutes to play.
But four goals, they can do that.
Maybe.
But not if they have to pull Carey with a riodiculous amount of time in the game.
Though pulling Carey gives the Predators a great chance to end the comeback since the Habs give up more empty netters than....
I don't know, but they sure give up a lot.
They've given up more than 14 clubs, but fewer than 8. At least until tonight. It's 11 now, but that's going to change isn't it?
As for empty netters for?
Ugh.
Wow, not ugh at all as they've score more empties than 19 other clubs.
If only they could have played their way to more empty net chances.
C'mon Habs!
Do the opposite of what you've done so often this season.
Storm back into a game and at least salvage a point.
Okay, it's not going to happen.
They need two goals and there's now less than a minute.
And Nashville not scoring, well that no longer matters.
Oh well, at least they avoided a home shutout. Though yes, they have a three game losing streak, or more likely(?) another wretched streak to make us holler all the louder for the firing of Claude Julien, who is coming back.
Oh bother.
There's always next season?
