The Russell Macklemore Experience #24

The episode with Joe Piscopo, entitled The Outrageous Okona is one I am sure I haven't seen since it was first on and I know that it wasn't worth any further watchings until now, when I have committed to watching the entirety of the series.
It's one of the quieter episodes that began with them helping out a pilot, a dashing rogue who immediately made Troi smile and upon beaming over, made a move on the Transporter operator, who was actually called the Transporter Chief even though that was O'Brien's title. Did they have multiple chiefs?
In any event, this Transporter Chief was played by a very young and attractive Teri Hatcher, before her role in Seinfeld, Lois And Clark: The New Adventures Of Superman and Desperate Housewives.
But for Okona, one hot woman wasn't enough as he needed three from the Enterprise, though it's not clear if he actually slept with the redhead as he was pulled away from her, by Worf, as they were in mid-embrace.
And she was one fine redhead,
The reason for being pulled away from her was that a pair of ships came calling for him, one because he'd knocked up the daughter of one captain and the other for being accused of stealing a jewel.
What a problem for Picard.
This all happened after Data spent time in the holodeck with Joe Piscopo, a not at all notable comedian, actor and much more since those years.
Rewatching it as I have today, the episode's focus was on Okona but it was an important episode for Data on his long journey to being more human.
He got laughs when he returned to the holodeck but was crushed when he realized that the crowd was programmed to laugh at anything he said.
Data was bummed out, which he wasn't when Guinan, played by Whoopi Goldberg, a comedienne herself.
As for the fathers from two different planets, one with a daughter and one with a son, who knew each other and weren't on the best of terms, it turned out it was a Romeo and Juliet story as the woman that had been knocked up by Okona, had actually fallen in love with the son and that child was his and he had in fact meant for the jewel to be given to her as part of his promise to marry her.
She hadn';t gotten the jewel as that was still in possession of Okona, who hadn't found the time to deliver it to her.
A likely story, but he handed it over to readily enough after she had first said, as they all met in person on the Enterprise instead of doing a conference between the three ships, which made perfect sense.
As for why they both said that Okona was to blame, they didn't want both planets to be at war.
But it all worked out.
And apparently Okona getting with, or trying to get with three different crew members didn't cause any waves, or none that they made us aware of, which is probably for the best.
But it would have made for an interesting comic or if it had existed at the time, a webseries, though a webseries for TNG probably wouldn't have felt right.
I just found out that the actor who played Okona, William Oliver Campbell, aka Billy Campbell, was the actor they originally wanted for Riker.
I think he would have done a fine job myself but I have no complaints about Riker as portrayed by Jonathan Frakes.
I liked the episode more than I thought I would. Dare I say that I enjoyed it too?
Maybe.
That was today's episode of TNG, but you should know, I am more than just a Trekkie.
I like many things and amongst them is sports.
I know that a lot of people are waiting for Basketball and Hockey to resume and for baseball to begin, but I have news for all of you, there isn't going to be any joy for those of you waiting for this time.
There won't be any sports in North America until sometime next year.
That's what I'm thinking today.
I'd love to be wrong, but I don't think COVID-19 is going to let that happen, even without fans in the stands because players can't practice social distancing on the field, court or ice.
The same holds true for movies as we're not going to be watchin any movies in the theatres until next year either at the earliest, which includes the MCU, which has been set behind because of this.
Of course with all the deaths in the world because of this, that's a boo hoo on these things not happening.
It's bad and it will worse before it gets better. And according to at least one of the doctors of note on the subject of viruses and such, it will return to palgue us.
Oh joy indeed.
Well, that's it, the quarter's done.
Be as well eh.
